This cake was requested by Fiona for a friend who turned 28. She just knew she wanted a Big Bang theory cake and some cupcakes and she wanted it to be memorable.

The logo's are printed with edible ink on an edible sheet.

The dolls are also edible completely and was inspired by a picture I found online of real wooden Russian dolls made by Terry Savage from Licoricewits in Canada.

Terry paints anything she can :) but has set her talents on painting wooden dolls for cake toppers and cards which gets sold online in her shops.

Terry Savage's Cake toppers...

How cute are these.... I was totally inspired!!

You can find more on her Flickr page, website, Twitter, Facebook and she blogs, so if you wanted to know how she does it, this is where she will show you step by step.

My work...

So I'm not as good as Terry, but at least I tried.

Each doll is made of gum paste. You don't want to use fondant as it is too soft and the head will sag and not keep the round shape.

I used a non toxic pencil to draw guidelines for me to paint over, trying to keep each character as close as possible to the real actors.

Each doll has a skewer inside holding them upright and do stick them into the cake as deep as possible so they don't tip over during delivery.

I used edible paint for the hair and clothes of each doll and edible ink pens for their faces. I used a number 20/0 paint brush for the fine lines over the clothes and tried to add shadow effects here and there.

The Big Bang Theory logo was printed with edible ink onto an edible sheet, but out with a pair of scissors while still soft. (They will/should always give your edible printed sheets to you vacuum sealed, or you should always vacuum seal them)

They are then transferred onto fondant and then with an scalpel the edges are cut out so that the logo is raised when you put it on the cake.

The Bazinga logo was cut out and pasted on the side of the cake without adding fondant.

Each cupcake circle was also cut out to be placed on the cupcakes.

And voila!!

Thanks for reading :)

I'm passionate about design, to turn everything I touch into something better and beautiful. Cakes are just one of my ways of giving what I have made away... The fact that it gets cut into pieces took me a while to adjust to, but I'm over it now :D Here you can find all my tips, pictures and even some recipes.
